Seasons, Reasons, and Lifetimes

By TJ Higgs Spiritual Medium

There’s a beautiful saying that people come into our lives for a season, a reason, or a lifetime—and as a medium, I’ve seen the deep truth in that time and time again. In my book Living with the Gift, I first wrote about this in the context of soul contracts and the lessons we agree to before we come into this life.

But as I continue on this path, I understand even more how divine the timing of each connection truly is.

Some people come into our lives like springtime—brief but blooming with impact. They may only be with us for a season, but their energy awakens something in us. These are the friends we meet during a phase of change, the teachers who appear just when we’re ready to grow, or even a stranger whose kindness shifts our whole day.

Others come for a reason. These souls help us learn something important—often through challenge, not comfort. They may arrive to break our heart open, to test our strength, to guide us back to ourselves when we’ve forgotten who we are. These encounters aren’t always easy, but they’re sacred nonetheless. They serve our evolution.

And then there are those rare souls who walk beside us for a lifetime—through every chapter, every shadow and light. These people are part of our soul family. We know them without needing to explain ourselves. They anchor us. Sometimes they’re born into our lives, and sometimes we find them later—but there’s always that feeling of, “Oh, it’s you. Again.”

In spirit communication, I often hear loved ones speak about how grateful they are for the role they played in your life, even if it was short. They want us to know that no connection is wasted. Every meeting has a purpose—even the painful ones. Especially the painful ones.

As we grow spiritually, we begin to see these patterns with more clarity. We can release the grip of resentment, confusion, or longing, and instead honour the connection for what it truly was. A gift. A soul agreement. A stepping stone.

🌿 Reflection prompt: Who in your life might have been a seasonal teacher, a reasoned lesson, or a lifelong soul companion? Can you give thanks for the role they’ve played—even if it didn’t last?

Whether they came for a season, a reason, or a lifetime—each soul we meet brings us closer to our own truth. The real magic is recognising the blessing, even in the goodbye.
