Talking Menopause: My Daily Mail Interview, Your Voices, and the Unexpected Trolls
When I was recently interviewed by the Daily Mail about my journey with menopause, I felt genuinely grateful to have my story shared on such a wide platform. To me, it wasn’t just about speaking my truth — it was about opening up a conversation that so many of us have been told to keep quiet.
The Positive Power of Community
On my Facebook page and Instagram, the response was overwhelming in the best way. Women opened up about their own struggles and triumphs with menopause.
One woman wrote, “Thank you, TJ, for saying it out loud. I’ve felt invisible going through this and now I feel seen.”
Another commented, “It hit me hard too, but I’m slowly finding myself again. Your honesty helps me feel less alone.”
Many shared their tips on exercise, nutrition, and simply giving themselves permission to rest — creating a thread of solidarity that felt like a warm hug across the screen.
Reading these messages reminded me that when we speak openly, we heal together.
The Trolls: When Support Turns Sour
But then came the other side. On the Daily Mail website, the trolls appeared. The cruelest surprise? Many of them were women.
Comments ranged from dismissive — “Oh, just get on with it, we all do” — to outright nasty digs at my appearance, my voice, even my decision to speak up at all. What saddened me most was not that people disagreed (we all experience menopause differently), but that fellow women chose to tear another woman down instead of lifting her up.
It made me pause and reflect: why do we sometimes attack each other instead of standing shoulder to shoulder?
Lessons in Strength and Compassion
Here’s what I took away from the whole experience:
Silence helps no one. Talking about menopause matters, even if it makes some people uncomfortable.
Your support means everything. For every troll, there were ten of you cheering me on, sharing your truth, and proving that women really are each other’s best allies.
Trolls reveal more about themselves than about you. Their words reflect their pain, not my truth.
Continuing the Conversation
Menopause isn’t just a phase. It’s a transformation. And like all transformations, it deserves honesty, compassion, and connection.
So to every woman who shared her story with me — thank you. You remind me why I do what I do: to create spaces where we can talk, heal, and grow together.
And to the trolls? Thank you too. You reminded me that standing in my truth will always ruffle feathers — but that won’t stop me speaking up.
✨ Over to you:
Have you ever faced criticism when opening up about something personal? How did you handle it?
Much Love
